Well I am finally coming down from a very grand adventure in deed. My face is being lit by the green glow of the open faced pc tower next to me. I am sandwiched between my cousin and my sister, my tummy is full of gyros and pita ... and I am once again happy. Okay I exagerate, but the journey to Greece was a challenge. When I last left you Sarah and I were about to board our ferry. I think that I had introduced David, the texan that gave us a curse of bad luck. And it stuck with us for the past two days. The power went out in the laundromat and you could tell that never happens by their reaction ... and they could not get it back on so we decided to leave. The very instant that we stepped out the door it shot back on. Sarah was so exasperated at this point that she proceeded to go back in with her arms sharing the disbelief and explain to the sweet young italian man while she was giggling histarically "You don't understand ... we met this guy and ..." I could barely contain myself and almost fell over with the effort of laughing that hard with my pack on.
We made it to the ferry early and eager to be on it so that it could not go anywhere without us on it. We thought that we were being so smart and snagged a seat on the deck at a table (we had deck seats which we assumed meant we were only allowed on the deck ... and felt this was confirmed by the way that they ushered us like diseased peons to the deck). However, it was hot ... really really really hot, but we were not going to leave our table so we stuck it out. We had an amazing dinner (my Italy staple) of freash bread, pesto, and sundried tomatoes ... oh yes and a litre and a half of red wine out of a juice carton. And yes for the visual we drank it right out of that container and liked it too. So all was good. We met some fun people, some Canadian boys, played some cards ... and then it started to get a little chilly. And then people started to pull out their matresses, and their sleeping bags. So I must admit that against Sarah's desires we settled on the seats at the side of the deck because I was not an eager beaver about sleeping on the dirty deck floor. This was good until a young man started laughing hystarically to himself right across from me. I tried so hard to block it out but to no luck so I went to check how Sarah was surving the noice. Nearly scaring the life out of her by staring at her we decided to move on. Location two was on the deck right by the railing with our packs blocking the myst and wind. By this point we had on all of our clothes and our surongs wrapped around our heads. This did not last long either and at 3 am we decided to try and get away with moving inside. We were so tired at this point that we could not contain our laughter at our condition. Location three was on the floor in the dinning area which was devine after the others ... but did not last long. We were woken with a poke and told to head back up to the deck. I refused to leave and with Sarah looking at me like I was making her life incredibly difficult, I rolled back over and went back to sleep ... for 45 min. when we were once again booted. So up we went and found a sheltered place on the deck again. This time it was not so windy and we slept a little until Sarah felt someone pushing up beside her. As we came to we soon saw that we were sleeping right in front of the bar and people were just lining up around us. Next we grabbed some chairs swadled our heads and say out in the open and tried to sleep again ... until they kicked us out AGAIN to clean the chairs and the DECK. WHERE I would like to ask Blue Star do they expect their deck passengers to go. And I know this is long but it did not end there. We went down to get some food, found a table and put down our packs to be yelled at to move our lowly deck butts out of his section. We ended up hiding around the corner from him until we got to the port.
It is funny to laugh about it now but we were so very happy to see Kylie and Aunt Barb in Athens. Sadly we only got to walk around for the evening. Saw the Acropolis at night and it was so insane and magestic. I loved what I saw of Athens and will look forward to a day there at the end of our island hoping. We were up with the loud tree insects to catch our ferry to Naxos.
Seriously I am in Heaven and in love. It is so beautiful here. The water is crystal blue and the food has been so yummy in my ever growing tummy. We went to the beach and as I always love to do I went to stroll down and take in the beauty on both sides of my (I quite love Greek men!) floppy white hat. However, it seems that paddling a tennis ball is very popular here and you could not walk an inch without a ball flying too close to your valuable grey matter. It was funny to look down though and see all the balls flying in the air. I saw octopus hanging out to dry and beautiful white homes with flowered veins crawling about them.
We are staying in a wonderful family run hotel. They picked us up and had us sit in the lobby while they talked about the island and forced local wine, feta, and tomatos upon us. Okay there was little force involved. We have a great little room with a balcony. We have been laughing lots and enjoying each others experiences.
It is nice to be with so many beautiful women that I love so dearly. Especially my sister. I just sat on the beach watching sarah and kylie cool of in the water and felt so thankful to have them.
It is quite overwhelming to sit back and recognise that I am here in Greece.
We are renting a car tomorrow and driving around the island.
Can't reflect much about my hearts trips as I am minus my ipod but will share about that soon as it has been growing and bursting with many beauties.
Sorry again about the spelling ... still no spell check.
And T, I took those pictures of the jewelry in Venice just for you, glad that you liked them.
Love you all. Wish you were here.
